This painting was inspired by an outback trip. This grass tree was just standing by itself in a red dirt area in NSW. I remembered it and painted it in a loose way using drizzling oil paint and thick impasto palette knife markings. I then threw dirt and seeds that I’d found in the area. At that stage I was using a lot of found objects from nature. I love the big bulbous shape of the base of the tree contrasting against the long thin grass fronds.
