These were painted after driving up through the middle of Australia and then camping and sketching the West Macdonnell Ranges. This is not of a place – more a sense of place – capturing the movement of the native grasses and spinifex, the sandy earth, the dry river beds and golden hills. I use iridescent pigments in the thick impasto artist’s quality oil paint – which aims to create a luscious and textural finish that captures the eyes as you walk around in different lights.
