“I have a deep affinity with the ocean and have been a keen scuba diver for over 10 years. With over one hundred dives behind me I decided to paint the threatened reefs of the world and bring focus to the magical life beneath the surface. This body of work is really different for me. I’m really enjoyed focusing on painting the inspiring energetic colour, amorphous shapes and fluid lines of the coral and tendrils underwater. I’m inspired by the light through the ocean and the dynamic life of healthy coral. The ocean currents create constant ebb and flow, the swirling fish, the moving coral tentacles in the ocean currents, sea snakes passing, the shimmering movement of sea life. These works on paper seek to convey the vibrant colour, mood and uplifting spirit of the reef and of how happy and alive I feel when I’m diving. I hope we keep our amazing Australian reefs safe and protected and do all we can do to allow them to flourish.” ~ Candyss
The Zen Garden
“THE ZEN GARDEN’ is inspired by scuba dives in the Great Barrier Reef. In this playful series UNDERCURRENT, I’ve really enjoying focusing on the neon bright colour pops of the reef, and the amorphous shapes and lines of the corals and tendrils moving in the ocean. I have spent a lot of time diving in the past decade. I love how the ocean currents create constant ebb and flow, the swirling fish, the moving coral tentacles in the ocean currents, and the shimmering movement of sea life. This painting seeks to convey the fun mood and spirit of the reef, of how I feel when I’m diving ~ while also exploring light, shape and colour.
