‘DEEP OCEAN BLUES’ is a seascape based on Candyss’ Lost Horizons style. She plays on the deep blues and enhances the shadows of the waves and the darkness of the horizon out to sea. The thick horizontal bands of colour are overlapped and overpainted with thinner glossy glazes of lighter colours giving an almost sculptural or three dimensional look to the work. There are multi layers of thick palette knife layers of oil paint, with thin drips and translucent washes and Irridescent pigment used in the glazes to refract light. The layering of unique mixed colours and horizontal flowing lines are what she focuses on. The painting process is loose, intuitive and a response to memory and emotion. While painting Candyss meditates on the experience, mood and memory of being near the water at the Ocean’s edge.
