The painting ‘RICH CENTRE’ was painted after one of many trips Candyss has made to paint in the West Macdonnell Ranges, Central Australia, in the Northern Territory. Candyss is always painting her DIRT LINES desert paintings – inspired by walks into the amazing West Macdonnell ranges, areas around the Hermannsburg area, Uluru, Kings Canyon and the Larapinta Trail in Central Australia. As an abstract painter Candyss wanted to really simplify the expansive feeling of being outback in the rich red dirt landscape. She has used iridescent pigments, sand, and dirt from the land to create loose textural markings that give the painting movement and a three dimensional quality. The use of strong gold iridian pigment creates a sparkle and glowing effect which seems to come from underneath the land – helping Candyss to describe her beliefs – that the land holds mystery and meaning deep below the surface. There is a magic and a transcendence that happens while out walking this special land. DIRT LINES is one of Candyss’ most popular painting series and look striking as statement pieces in contemporary homes.
