‘Red Escarpment Thunder’ is from the DIRT LINES series. Focusing on horizontal bands of textural rich colours of the outback Candyss’ experimental work is very much process driven and revolves around mixed media and the materials (acrylic paint, oil paint, oilsticks, spray paint, metallic dust, iridian pigments). Painting mostly on larger canvases, the painting process is intuitive, created from memory using spontaneous mark making. The canvas seems to do the talking whilst Candyss creates automatic markings, layering of colour and thick textural bands of colour.
‘RED ESCARPMENT THUNDER’ is held in the collection and is for sale and on view at the gallery.
‘This painting was from one of many trips out to the desert of the Northern Territory. The rich red dirt, the sage bushes and spinifex, the rusty fences, the glow of the dusk in the West, the huge dark storms clouds in the east and rain on the horizon all resulted in creating ‘RED ESCARPMENT THUNDER’.
