Candyss likes to experiment with mediums, iridescent pigments and mixed media. The painting is spontaneous, in the flow and very colour driven. It revolves around playing with the materials (acrylic paint, oil paint, oilsticks, spray paint, metallic dust, iridian pigments) and using memory and sketches for inspiration. Painting on mostly larger canvases the painting process is intuitive, organic, from the imagination and involves a lot of spontaneous mark making. The canvas seems to do the talking whilst Candyss creates automatic markings, layering of colour and thick gestural and textural brushstrokes.
“I keep returning to abstraction.
Desert quietude
Outback expansiveness
Salt lake reflections in the luminous red desert
My work is about colour, texture and light.
I have used irridescent pigments for over a decade now and love the endless possibility of colours these create.
This painting ‘DESERT REFLECTIONS’ was from one of many trips out to the desert of outback NSW. The rich red dirt, the dry spinifex, the rusty fences, the glow of the salt lakes in the distance, the evening sky, the huge dark storms clouds and small chance of rain on the horizon all resulted in creating ‘DESERT REFLECTIONS’.
