Midnight Reeds Study

This is the first small study Candyss painted of the Midnight Reeds Series. It was painted after walking back to a hotel room in Bali at midnight. The moonlight was shining on the pond and the shadow of the reeds cut across the reflection of the water and led Candyss to paint this abstract series. Candyss painted for seven years in Asia and this experience greatly influenced her subject matter. Lily Ponds, waterways and water studies are the main subject themes in this MIDNIGHT REEDS Series. “What inspired me after being surrounded by so much water all my life was the idea of the fluidity of water being an analogy with the constant flow of life- the fluidity of our imagination and our thought process – the defining qualities of the human life. As we flow through stages and move down paths that we may or may not enjoy there is a comfort and consistency of the Self, the Watcher. This comforting and peaceful feeling of the Inner Self is often found through gazing at the water – looking into the ponds at midnight; returning us to that serenity of the Inner Self.” Candyss has received many commissions based on this series and loves to revisit the abstract yet peaceful subject matter.
