Asia has been an important foundation of Candyss’ art career after working and living first in Hong Kong and then Singapore for over 8 years. Candyss jogged every morning to the Singapore Botanical Gardens – watching the water lilies opening in the warm early morning air and observing the hanging heliconias with bright pops of orange and red contrasting with the bright green that grew everywhere.
The first Asian Floral series was inspired by these Botanical Gardens and was titled ‘Tropical Shadows’.
“This painting ‘MORNING LILLIES’ was painted after morning run and visit to the gardens where the waterlillies were just opening. The soft morning sun in Singapore was so pretty and the pink against the green reflections looked like a Monet painting. I wanted to play with the pastel colours, shadows and light”
