Asia has been an important foundation of Candyss’ art career after working and living first in Hong Kong and then Singapore for over 8 years. Candyss jogged every morning to the Singapore Botanical Gardens – watching the Heliconia flowers heavily hanging in the warm early morning air, dark shadows and intense foliage. Observing the hanging heliconias with bright pops of orange, pink and reds contrasting with the bright green that grew everywhere inspired Candyss to paint the flowers.
The first Asian Floral series was inspired by these Botanical Gardens and was titled ‘Tropical Shadows’.
“This painting ‘HANGING HELICONIA’ depicts the really bright colours and bold flora in Asia due to the different light and deep shadows. I painted the vibrant heliconia flowers hanging lazily against the shadowy green plants focusing on the contrasting colours, shadows and light”. ~ Candyss
