Asia has been an important foundation of Candyss’ art career after working and living first in Hong Kong and then Singapore for over 8 years. Candyss jogged every morning to the Singapore Botanical Gardens – watching the water lilies opening in the warm early morning air and observing the hanging heliconias with bright pops of orange and red contrasting with the bright green that grew everywhere. This painting ‘BRIGHT LILY POND’ was inspired from a visit there. The first Asian Flora EXHIBITION was inspired by these Botanical Gardens and was titled ‘Tropical Shadows’.
“The colours are really bright and bold in Asia due to the different light and deep shadows. I painted the waterlily pads and lillies in the shadow filled pond focusing on the contrasting colours, shadows and light”.
