Candyss walks daily along the local ocean setting of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. She contemplates and sketches around the rockpools and cliffs. These are a place of celebration and serenity – embodying memorable years living there with her family since the age of seven. Whilst walking and drawing Candyss reflects on the transformative power of the ocean upon nature. The Sydney sandstone around the Northern Beaches and Mosman harbour foreshore is one subject that she often returns to for painting inspiration.
Layers of naturally occurring colours exposed in the weathered rocks – greens, aqua blues and sandstone ochres, patterns of lines that finish with Candyss creating an illusory vision of the place somewhere between the real and the remembered.
