All That Glimmers

“The underground opal mines and underground homes are mysterious and intriguing – they dig and they don’t know what they’ll find – I find the whole area shines – almost shimmers with imagined jewels”.
Candyss believes art happens somewhere between clarity and ambiguity; concept and intuition.
“It’s while driving or walking along I have these flashes of paintings – seeing the earth reflecting a strong horizon line with contrasting evening coloured clouds. The painting process involves starting with this strong horizon line to create depth and a kind of expanded perspective, then using oil paint and iridescent pigments I spontaneously follow my creative inner voice with layers of thick paint, automatic markings, scratching out and a strong use of unique earthy metallic colours. I love using sand and ash and other mixed media materials to add texture”.
