Storm out to Sea

‘Storm out to Sea’ is a study of a larger painting Candyss painted. These 30 x 30cm small works look great hung together along a hallway or in a smaller space. Candyss intentionally chose a multi layering of thick gestural brush work, overpainted with translucent washes and iridescent pigment to refract light. The colours and horizontal flowing lines are what she focuses on. She uses thicker gestural bands of oil colour with a palette knife to build up interesting textures. Each glazed layer slightly exposing the underpainting. The painting process is loose, intuitive and a response to memory and emotion. While painting Candyss meditates on the experience, mood and memory of being near the water at the Ocean’s edge just after a summer storm.
