Off City Silver Highway

Driving along the Silver City Highway from Broken Hill to Tibooburra Candyss finds much inspiration to stop and sketch along the way. Dry barren open plains. Peace and quietude fill the atmosphere with only occasional bird calls breaking the silence.
“It’s while driving along I have these flashes of paintings – I’m constantly inspired seeing the colours, the expansive land stretching for eternity and the strong horizon line inviting me to drive on and on. In this painting “OFF SILVER CITY HIGHWAY’ the process involves starting with this strong horizon line to create depth and a kind of expanded perspective, then using a palette knife and lots of oil paint and pigments I build up spontaneously follow my creative inner voice with layers of thick paint, automatic markings of fence posts & flora, scratching out, painting back in with a strong use of unique Australian earthy colours.” ~ Candyss
