Candyss has been a musician all her life – she began playing guitar and writing songs when she was twelve years of age. She grew up with a mother who was a jazz lover – so they listened to the great jazz guitarists, singers, and bands of the 20’s through to the 60’s. Her father was a good jazz pianist and so music is in Candyss’ lineage. In this series ANY DAY NOW Candyss listens to jazz music and interprets the melodies with colour, movement and shapes. Colours and shapes are symbolic of musical notes and the gestural splashes of enamel paint are spontaneously painted. These artworks are vibrant and playful depicting the fusion of music and colour in an improvisational way.
