Magic Mountain (Canvas Print)

“ ‘Magic Mountain’ is from the series “UNDERCURRENT”. I have a deep affinity with the ocean. With over 130 dives in the past decade I’ve spent a lot of time under the water with corals & pelagics of the ocean. The mystery, magic, and intensity of diving deep and finding a magic mountain atoll deep at the bottom of the sea is so inspiring. I love to travel extensively to experience and sketch in remote areas throughout Australia & overseas – especially the Raja Ampat Islands in the Indonesian Archipelago near West Papua. The corals are so healthy, intensely coloured with rich and diverse varieties of coral and sea life – its paradise.
In this series I’ve experimented with amorphous shapes and lines using mixed media and materials (acrylic paint, oil paint, metallic dust, irridescent pigments) to represent my connection to the underwater world while diving. My paintings are a response to memory and the experience of the vibrant colour and energy deep under the surface. In “Undercurrents” these mixed-media works on canvas and paper aim to be provoking, inspiring, playful artworks. I hope you enjoy them! “ ~ Candyss
