This original oil painting on canvas (153cm x 102cm) by Candyss is painted in 2000. Living and painting in Asia was an important foundation of Candyss’ art career after working and living first in Hong Kong and then in Singapore for eight years. Candyss jogged every morning to the Singapore Botanical Gardens – watching the water lilies open in the warm early morning air and observing the heliconias with their bright pops of orange and red contrasts, the bright foliage greens and darker tropical shadows.
The first Asian Floral series was inspired by these Botanical Gardens and was titled ‘TROPICAL SHADOWS’.
The Heliconia series was based on the elements water, air, fire and earth. “Heliconia Air” has been in the artist’s gallery storage and is now available for sale.
“The colours are really bright and bold in Asia due to the different light and deep shadows. I painted the vibrant heliconia flowers hanging lazily against the shadowy green plants focusing on the contrasting colours, shadows and light”.
