Candyss Crosby’s contemporary coastal painting aims to evoke the feeling of light on the ocean, gentle rolling waves across sandbanks and the stormy clouds on the infinite horizon. This seascape describes the gentle morning’s early tide – the shallow low tide waters across sandbanks at the shore line, flowing energy and motion of early morning ocean waves and the reflection of light on the water moving over sand banks. One of Candyss’ favourite beach walks is along local Curl Curl Beach where she often meditates on the beach in the morning. She loves ocean swims and is inspired by the power of the ocean – the ebb & flow, the constant movement and energy, the light on waves, it’s force and vulnerability; softness and strength, its fluidity and tension. Candyss intentionally chose a multi layering of thick oil paint strokes, palette knife textural markings and translucent washes in the sky. She uses iridescent pigment to refract light in the clouds and in the waves. The painting process is loose, intuitive and responsive to feeling and emotion. While painting Candyss meditates on the experience, mood and memory of being in the water at the Ocean’s edge.
