After The Goldrush

“After traveling and taking time out on my own art retreat around the area of Hill End, I came back to the studio and painted this  oil painting “After the Goldrush” which was the beginning of my LOST HORIZONS SERIES, an ongoing series, one that I still love to revisit.  It was painted with glazes of oil paint and brushwork, then a build up of palette knife work, scratching out, dripping, drizzling, mixing new exciting colours with raw pigments and iridescent pigments. I wanted to convey the fragility of the land, the layers of ochre coloured rock and sandstone, the seams of gold underneath its surface and the colour, strength and beauty”
