After traveling year after year into the landscape I realise that my painting process to any sense of place is becoming deeper, more about the soul and heart of the landscape. I see there are layers under every surface, so much that I can’t see, that which I can only feel as the Spirit of the Land. I paint in this abstract approach layering the colours and textures hoping to create the feeling and experience of the outback. ‘A Place in the Sun’ was painted from a trip I had done from Sydney through to South Australia, Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre, and up through to Uluru and the West Macdonnell Ranges. I took it all in and painted what I knew.
